Community Support Program
The Committee of the CJFC believes that its players would benefit from a worthwhile and positive community based program to support football for kids with lesser circumstances than their own. From our brief experience to date we understand the support is well received by the recipients. Our intention is to provide support annually to a similar community. The Djarindjin Lombadina school was identified for the 2006 year. Located around 200km north of Broome it has around 80 pupils and is running a successful program to get kids to school each day by providing breakfast, and organized sporting activities after school. The availability of reasonable quality equipment was limited. On the night of our annual jumper presentation, a short presentation on the community and the support program was made and words of support offered by current Dockers players. Consistent with the objectives of our program, we assisted the school with football related equipment and support which included the following:
Other than the goal posts, all of the above items were sourced from Club member families and their contacts in the local community. CJFC also received wonderful support in 2006 from Claremont Sports, Fremantle Football Club (the Dockers) and Aquinas College. As a result of the community program the headmaster of the Lombadina school has been able to establish a competition with other local communities utilising the equipment provided by our club. The visit the Lombadina boys made to one of our training nights was a highlight for all concerned. Several CJFC families have now visited the Lombadina community and made contact. The message to our Cottesloe players is simple – many kids (e.g. the kids at Lombadina) have skills and ability and want to play footy just as you they do – many of them want to and probably could end up playing AFL football - they just need some support and encouragement to create the opportunity. CJFC is a fortunate club in terms of facilities and parent support and we would like in some small way to support kids in other communities. View Thankyou Letter from Lombadina Community |
